OUR PROJECTS

Our Major Project

Free hearing screenin for neonates:

When a child is born, he or she just knows to cry to express their emotions or problems. If your child has hearing impairment, you will not notice till speech learning age approaches and he/ she does speak a single word. This is due to lack of awareness and the

child was not diagnosed for hearing impairment immediately after birth or

within 24-48 hours. Our aim is to encourage neonatal hearing screening to

reduce the rate of hearing impairment. The free neonate hearing screening camp

was organized frequently 1st July 2021 still continuous. Despite of

multiple awareness post through social media platform only ten neonates were

brought by their parents for neonatal screening. This implies that importance

of hearing screening is unknown which is matter of concern for society.  Till now we have screened more than 5500 new-born babies.

TIPS & TRICKS

"f Stay informed and advocate for your newborn's hearing health by scheduling regular screenings and seeking professional advice for any concerns."

"Early detection leads to early intervention, unlocking a world of possibilities for every newborn. Embrace the gift of sound, nurture their potential."

Hearing Screening Camp for Auto drivers of Jugnoo Auto Services Surat

In response to the heightened risk of hearing loss among auto drivers exposed to constant traffic noise, we organized a free screening camp from July 28 to August 7, 2021. After gaining permission from Jugnoo Auto Cab Service, we conducted voluntary screenings for forty-one drivers, performing Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) on thirty-eight of them. Thankfully, all drivers exhibited normal hearing abilities. We utilized this opportunity to raise awareness about hearing care and symptoms of hearing difficulty, equipping them with knowledge to protect their hearing amidst their demanding work environment.

Free hearing screening camp

for Pilot

“With permission from the charter plane company, we organized a hearing screening camp for both pilots and ground staff from September 3rd to 6th, 2021. Despite the noisy work environment, the ground staff consistently used precautionary measures such as earplugs. However, the pilots did not follow the same precautions. We conducted audiological tests, including autoscopy and pure-tone audiometry (PTA), on thirty employees, including pilots. Remarkably, all participants demonstrated healthy hearing ability. This suggests that the pilots’ good hearing health may be attributed to their cautious approach in using proper protective measures.”

F ree hearing screening at old age home

“With permission from the responsible authorities, we organized a hearing screening camp for elderly people at an old age home in Surat. Due to their age, they are at a high risk of hearing impairment. Our goal was to improve their quality of life by identifying potential hearing issues. Unfortunately, awareness was limited, and we could only screen 23 participants. Among them, approximately 76% had sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), 4% had mixed hearing loss, and 22% had normal hearing. It’s crucial to focus on two specific age groups: people aged 55-70 years and children aged 0-7 years. Regular screenings are essential to address hearing issues in the elderly population.”

Free hearing screening

for emergency workers of 108

With permission from authorities, we've screened 122 emergency workers from 108, recognizing their selfless dedication in often risky environments. Many work tirelessly, prioritizing others over themselves. Lack of support limited our screening to 122. Among them, 74% were normal, 18% had NIHL, 6% SNHL, and 2% Conductive issues. This proactive approach aims to enhance their efficiency in patient care, addressing their own health concerns, ultimately benefiting those they serve.

Free hearing screening for dial 100

employees.

With permission from the relevant authorities, we conducted hearing screenings for Dial 100 employees—an emergency service where telecallers make and receive calls. The continuous use of headphones during call handling puts them at risk of hearing impairment. By screening 50 workers, we found that 50% had normal hearing, 26% had sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), 20% had noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), and 4% had conductive hearing issues. Recognizing hearing loss early allows for timely advice and prevents permanent damage. Given their critical role, ensuring proper hearing ability is essential for effective communication and caller analysis.

Free hearing screening camp for Traffic Police, SURAT

Traffic police, the frontline workers regulating traffic, endure high noise levels during their 8-hour shifts, often facing increased hours during emergencies. This constant exposure to traffic noise puts them at high risk of developing NIHL. Lack of awareness often leads to neglecting symptoms of hearing difficulty, worsening over time. With permission, we're conducting free hearing screening camps for Surat police. Using otoscopy followed by PTA, we've found a common incidence of noise-induced hearing loss. Personal advice was given to prioritize their hearing health, emphasizing the importance of regular screening.

Free hearing screening for

Industrial workers.

Surat, a well-known metropolitan city in Gujarat, serves as a major industrial and commercial hub in India. The diamond and textile industries employ a large workforce, but the city also faces varying degrees of noise pollution. Industrial workers are continuously exposed to heavy machinery noise, making regular hearing screenings crucial for reducing the incidence of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).
Despite limitations in reaching all industries, we screened 236 workers. The results showed that approximately 66% had normal hearing, 20% had sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), 11% had NIHL, and 3% had conductive hearing issues. To further decrease hearing impairment rates, mandatory hearing tests are essential. Many workers were unaware of the importance of hearing screening before the camp.
As Surat city expands, so does its population. The rise of technology, including doorstep delivery services, has led to Porter—a platform providing such services—employing delivery partners who work in heavy traffic noise for approximately 8 hours a day. Unfortunately, many of these partners experience symptoms of hearing difficulty due to this exposure, but lack of awareness leads them to ignore these signs. Over time, mild hearing loss can progress to severe loss.
In an effort to address this issue, we organized a free hearing screening camp at Porter in October 2023. Despite our best intentions, the turnout was limited, with only a handful of participants attending. Our organization had initially scheduled a three to four-day camp to accommodate more delivery partners, but unfortunately, the response fell short of our expectations. Our genuine aim was to provide assistance to these partners, but due to insufficient awareness and support, we were unable to fully execute the campaign.
